Popular messaging app WhatsApp will introduce a new biometric feature in its latest update to enhance security for users, according to WaBetaInfo, a website which consistently shares updates on the app.
WhatsApp doesn’t actually acquire a record of your fingerprint. Your phone records your print as data for creating a different password for WhatsApp.
If the fingerprint option does not work, users can use their “device credentials” instead, such as a pin number.
The platform currently uses end-to-end encryption for protection, so this would be an additional layer of security.
