Twitter’s Unusual Stance on Alex Jones

Alex Jones, known for his far-right conspiracy theories and hate speech, was finally taken off of various internet platforms this week, to the long-awaited joy of many users.

In one of the many dangerous theories, he claimed the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre were crisis actors. He’s now being sued by the Sandy Hook families.

In a removal spree, Apple and Spotify took off his podcasts, and Facebook and YouTube took off his pages, effectively shrinking his media empire.

This dominoes effect was at a tipping point for awhile. YouTube removed four of Jones’ videos on July 24th, over hate speech and child endangerment.

Twitter is the unlikely platform that has yet to ban Alex Jones. Twitter has been known to ban users over the very material that Jones promotes.
