Facebook Live, launched August 5th, 2016, grants users the ability to share experiences as they happen. Originally, this option was only available to public figures via the methods app. Since April 2016, it’s available to all users using the IOS or Android app.
On New Years Eve, millions of people from all over the world went live with Facebook to broadcast their celebrations and broke a record for participation.
The Facebook Live blog will be doing a weekly series with this week posting 10 standout videos from their livestreams.
In a Facebook media blog post, the company detailed new features they were rolling out for the New Year, such as a comment moderation tool, team prompts to help people craft descriptions of their live posts, a broadcast status bar with info such as battery life, and a schedule reminder.
Brands have also been looking into the benefits of advertising with live posts. Facebook unveiled an option a few months ago that allows businesses to showcase their logo or certain text with Facebook Live.
