CEO Mark Zuckerberg may have plans to delve into government services while holding control of Facebook, according to court filings from April that would lessen the power of shareholders which would give him permanent control of the company. Obama on the other hand has plans of going into a post-presidential digital media career.
Earlier in the year Zuckerberg went to his shareholders and asked if they would approve of him keeping voting control of Facebook, even if he sells the majority of his stock for philanthropic purposes. His stock currently has most of the voting rights.
Zuckerberg in the past has tried to avoid any appearance of political bias. When he was questioned about fake news on Facebook altering the election results, he was clear that he took the matter seriously.
Venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, one of Facebook’s prominent investors, texted Zuckerberg in March. Some of the texts were made public through court documents. According to copies made public from the guardian, Andreessen texted the “biggest issue” of the corporate proposal was “how to define the gov’t service thing without freaking out shareholders that you are losing commitment.”
