Facebook and Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary

Star Trek first aired 50 years ago. Since it’s inception, multiple generations have been captivated by the voyages of Starfleet.

Facebook is celebrating 50 years of Star Trek by changing their reaction buttons. According to Lindsey Shepard, people in the US and Canada who expressed an interest in Star Trek or science fiction could also see a personalized greeting from Facebook. It invites people to add a custom Star Trek frame to their profile picture.

The cast of the reaction buttons are Kirk, Spock, Geordi and a Klingon. Like has an added sparkle, Love is a Vulcan salute, Kirk is first up after “like” and “love” as the captain, Geordi is shedding a tear while wearing his VISOR. Finally a Klingon is the “angry” reaction since they are easily agitated.

Twitter has also been trending #StarTrek50 in celebration of the anniversary. Cast such as William Shatner are also celebrating
