Twitter has been successful in the past with live streams. They beat Amazon and Verizon in a competitive bid for a global NFL Streaming deal.
Twitter plans to live stream the Republican and Democratic national conventions. Twitter will partner with CBS News to provide the coverage. The two organizations will use CBS News’s digital streaming service, CBSN.
The stream will be live on Twitter every day of the conventions. The coverage will also include tweets related to the convention.
“Twitter is the fastest way to find out what’s happening in politics and to have a discussion about it,” Anthony Noto, Twitter’s chief financial officer, said.
Social media in general has been leaning towards the option of live-streaming. It’s not surprising then that Twitter would jump at the opportunity to feature live-streams of key events.
Twitter also signed a deal with Bloomberg Media, which was their third live-streaming deal this week. The two companies partnered to live-stream a few of Bloomberg’s TV programs.
